The Memories of [Protagonist] (name changes to match your character's name) is a location in Code Vein.
After defeating the Argent Wolf Berserker in the midpoint of the Cathedral of the Sacred Blood, the player can find a single Vestige Core lying on the ground behind its arena. Attempting to interact with the Vestige Core will trigger a warning that the player will be transported to a new area. It's advised to activate the Mistle just up ahead before picking up the core.
Once the protagonist picks up the Vestige Core, they are triggered to a very long flashback of their own memories. This flashback takes place in the final days of Operation Queenslayer, where the protagonist, aided by Jack Rutherford and directed by Gregorio Silva, tracks down and defeats The Queen. They first awaken in the infirmary where Karen Amamiya reviews their medical condition and post-regeneration memory, gives them a mask to protect against the miasma, and wishes them well on the expedition. Jack gives them a vial of medicine made from the Queen's blood to activate Mistles here for easy transport.
At the end of the area, Jack and the protagonist are interrupted by the Queen's Knight, a powerful Lost that has been mutated and empowered by direct exposure to the Queen's miasma. After a long and tough fight, the Queen reveals herself, and the protagonist and Jack move to finish her off. Despite her small stature and Silva intervening to hold off her Purging Thorns, she puts up quite a fight, knocking off the protagonist's mask and sending them onto the brink of frenzy in a matter of seconds. Despite this, the protagonist hangs on to their sanity for just long enough to finish off the Queen with a claw straight to the heart. This turns her into ash, exposes the protagonist to contact with her own blood, and implicitly turns them into the Successor of the Blood which explains their unusual powers.
However, the protagonist eventually loses their grip on themselves and begins to succumb to frenzy, forcing Jack to kill them with a shot right through the heart to keep them from becoming Lost. The protagonist falls off a cliff and plummets into the ravine, ending the flashback. The player earns the Queenslayer Blood Code, which originally belonged to the protagonist before these events "broke" their own code and turned it "void".
Treasures[]
Trivia[]
- The protagonist will automatically be swapped to wearing their most-upgraded Queenslayer Claw upon starting and completing this episode. If this item doesn't already exist in their inventory, a new one will be created and equipped.
- Despite the location being set in a large flashback, the player can still bring forward and use equipment from the "present", and all items obtained in the Memories are perfectly usable elsewhere. One sidequest even involves you going into the Memories to retrieve the same Mistle activator that Jack issues to the protagonist.
